Abused woman

Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) has said that the woman from Gaafu Dhaalu Thinadhoo who is in the ICU after suffering sexual abuse from her husband, remains in critical condition due to injuries to her brain.

IGMH Spokesperson Zeenath Ali Habeeb said that although the woman showed signs of slow recovery last week, her condition took a turn for the worse on Monday.

Zeenath said that she was taken ADK Hospital yesterday as requested by the family, but returned to IGMH later. Doctors at both hospitals have not been able to operate on her given her condition.

Her husband, Ibrahim Shah, 40, has been arrested.

A witness told Sun Media on the condition of anonymity that the woman left her husband some time ago and had been living with her family.

Ministry of Law and Gender, on Twitter last week, condemned the abuse and assured to do everything possible to find justice for the victim.
