Group from Villingili rallies due to electrical blackouts

A group of young people from G.A. Villingili has held a rally protesting to a solution after days of constant power outages.

The rally began after the Isha prayers tonight on the major roads of the island with lamps and candles.

“We are out to express our disheartening, due to blackouts every now and then, breaking electronics at the houses and other damages. And because it is ongoing without a solution.” A person leading the rally told Sun Media.

Since Sun Media has been unable to contact the electricity provider in the island, FENAKA Corporation, there has been no word from the company.

President of the Villingili Island Council, Niyaz Nizar told Sun Media that the island has been experiencing blackout at different sectors due to an issue with a generator at the powerhouse.

“Out of the three generators being used at the powerhouse, a problem with the 800 kilo watt generator caused the blackouts. FENAKA Corporation is working to resolve the problem.” Nizar said.

The participants at the rally tonight said that the island has always been supporting the government in power but “20 minutes of electricity followed by 30 minutes without it, the people are out expressing how unhappy they are.”
