Deported film crew release project details

The film crew that was deported from the Maldives has released information about their project.

The documentary being filmed in the Maldives by ARD, a consortium of the public broadcasters of Germany, is titled “Malediven: Paradies als Terroristenheimat” (Maldives: Paradise as the home of terrorists).

They said that the documentary was research into how IS was operating in the Maldives.

According to the report on their work in the Maldives, “Islamism” is getting stronger in the country. And said that 200 Maldivians have joined IS and the Maldives has the highest number of supporters of IS per population.

The trailer prepared by the film crew shows Maldivian women in hijab (headscarf) and people praying in Al Masjid al Furuqan. And it also shows a sign board that bans bikinis in public.

The film crew said that their lead filmmaker Markus Spieker was deported for ten years.

The documentary that tried to show that the Maldives was a dangerous place was being produced by the ARD office in New Delhi, India.
