Environment Minister Thoaiq Ibrahim has said that a number of islands experience water shortage in the dry season and the government is working to save the islands from water shortage.
Speaking at the Groundbreaking Ceremony of Water Supply System in Lh. Hinnavaru today, Minister Thoariq said that safe drinking water must be available to the people. And if a dry season comes, a lot of islands are experiencing water shortage and cannot get water.
“In Maldives, unlike before, dry season is getting longer. Because of that there are many islands in Maldives without clean drinking water. Government is working to save the people from water shortages.” Environment Minister Thoariq said.
Minister Thoariq said that since President Yamin got elected, water systems have been established in 10 islands and noted that it was a victory. He said that President Yamin’s government is working to provide the basic services to the people as best as possible.
But there are people working to stop the basic foreign aid to the country, says Minister Thoariq.
“A group of people work to stop the basic aid to the country. That is very sad. And that won’t only affect the government, to the Maldivian people.” Minister Thoariq said.
The project that began in Hinnavaru costs USD 3.76 million (MVR 57.98 million). The water system in the island is being established with the free aid of USAD.
