Lawyer Jared Genser representing the former President Mohamed, Nasheed who is currently serving a 13-year prison sentence, has said that his condition may worsen if not treated quickly.
Jared Genser wrote on the Wall Street Journal that the former President is “suffering from a major spinal injury sxacerbated by the lack of appropriate medical care, he is in intense pain and parts of one side of his body, including his fingers and face, are numb.”
He said that without the proper care, President Nasheed could “perish” in prison.
Genser said that President Abdulla Yamin has refused to send President Nasheed abroad for his medical condition and want the former President to die in prison.
“The two independent doctors selected by the government recommended he have microsurgery on his spine, a procedure not available in the Maldives. Yet current President Abdulla Yameen has refused a medical evacuation and now appears content to let Mr. Nasheed die. The world cannot let Mr. Nasheed’s story end this way.” Jared Genser wrote.
While Genser has said this, President Nasheed’s family has also raised concerns that the former President is not getting adequate medical care.
And the office of President Nasheed has condemned that the Home Minister Umar Naseer is publicizing the former President’s medical state and condition on behalf of the government as they are informed by President Nasheed’s doctors.
President Abdulla Yamin has received a lot of criticism from the former President Nasheed’s lawyer, Jared Genser. And so Genser has said that President Yamin is not someone who respects the human rights and does not trust the people of his country.
