7-day remand period for wife beater

G.dh Thinadhoo Court has granted police a 7-day remand period for man arrested on Sunday for beating his wife.

Police said that Family Protection Authority had filed a case of domestic violence with them, and that the 40 year-old man was arrested in relation to that.

The woman who received the beating is being treated at Intensive Care Unit of Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital and is said to be unconscious, still.

A source who spoke to “Sun” regarding the case said that the woman was first taken to Thinadhoo Regional Hospital and then transported to Male’.

Her family is still waiting for doctors’ permission to take her abroad for treatment.

The incident is said to have taken after disagreements between the couple resulted in the woman walking out and living with her family.
