Details of oil deal with Saudi Arabia to be announced next week

Details of the agreement with Saudi Arabia regarding buying crude oil at a reduced price would be made available next week, Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture Dr Mohamed Shainee has said.

Speaking at a press conference by the Economic Council on Thursday, Dr Shainee said that the agreement was reached some time ago and finalisation of the documents related to the deal was now almost completed.

“Both President Yameen and the Saudi Arabian government were informed that the relevant documents had been signed by Maldives and dispatched to Saudi Arabia,” Dr Shainee said.

He said that the documents, however, failed to reach the relevant departments in Saudi Arabia due to the recent turmoil in the Maldives related to the assassination attempt on the President, but assured that details would be revealed early next week.
