Police launch investigation against lawyer Shameem

Police have launched an investigation as requested by Department of Judicial Administration (DJA), against lawyer Hussain Shameem.

Shameem previously served as prosecutor general and presently acts as part of former vice president Ahmed Adeeb’s legal team.

Police have confirmed to Sun Media that Shameem is being investigated, but did not provide details.

Shameem was recently suspended indefinitely and has had his licence revoked. DJA said in a statement following the suspension, “The Supreme Court has temporarily prohibited lawyer Hussain Shameem, H. Shady Corner, from acting as a lawyer in all courts of the Maldives.”

Shameem said he was not informed of the suspension.
