Elections Commission has said that they are preparing to introduce electronic voting (e-voting) in 2016.
Speaking on SunTV’s 50-Minute program tonight, member of the Elections Commission, Ahmed Akram said that they are working to introduce e-voting in the Local Council Election next year.
Akram said that they are researching which system of e-voting is most efficient for the Maldives.
“And so we are also looking which country has the best e-voting system for the Maldives. We are now talking with those who can customize and experts and doing the researches.” Akram said.
He said that the basic works to introduce e-voting in next year’s Local Council Election next year has begun.
“Looking at e-voting, the first phase is now complete. That is, all the islands in the country gets internet. So it is an easily implementable system.” Akram said.
At the SunTV program tonight, the Secretary General of the Elections Commission, Ahmed Ali said that the law has to be changed when introducing an e-voting system. He said that the Elections Commission is also preparing to bring the necessary changes to the law as well.
