Maldivian Language Academy and Heritage visits Thinadhoo to research the historical site

A team from The Maldivian Language Academy and Maldives Heritage has arrived in G.Dh. Thinadhoo to research the historical mosque discovered in the island.

The Language Academy said that a report would be made after researching the historical mosque in this visit organized by the Education Ministry.

President of the Maldivian Language Academy, Ashraf Ali told Sun Media today that the report made after the research would be shared with the relevant institutes of the Government.

Ashraf said that preliminary analysis say that the historical mosque found in Thinadhoo is over 85 years old but the elders in the island say that it is older than that.

Ashaf said that there those who have prayed in the old mosque still alive on the island. And so they are collecting historical information on the mosque from those who have experienced such things.

He said that a stone that has 1355 written in Arabic was found at the site. But it is unclear whether the writing say 13 or 12 due to decomposition.

The President of the Language Academy said that if it is 1322, it is during the reign of Sultan Shamsuddhin.

He said that it is documented that Sultan Shamsuddin donated to the mosque upon request.

The historic old mosque was found after the old Hukuru Miskiy (Friday Mosque) was demolished to build an Islamic Center.
