This came after British Prime Minister, David Cameron, said at the UK parliament that CMAG had decided to put Maldives “under formal consideration”. Cameron attended the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Valletta, Malta, between 27 and 28 November.
In a separate tweet on Sunday, Foreign Ministry also repeated the government’s commitment to the Commonwealth principles.
“Government of Maldives reiterates its commitment to the #Commonwealth principles and to work with #CMAG during 2016.”

On 25 November, Foreign Ministry said Maldives’s exclusion from CMAG agenda was due to Maldives’ positive engagement with Commonwealth.
“CMAG decides not to place Maldives on the agenda, recognises Maldives' positive engagement with Commonwealth.”
