The Police have indicated that 52 people have been taken under arrest following the unrest caused by Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) sparked by the search conducted by Police on Usfasgandu, the area used by MDP to hold political activities.

A Police media official said today that all the arrested people were men, and that two have been released this morning.

Police made arrests near Cine Male’ flat area and Usfasgandu area during the day yesterday, and also at the junction of Majeedee magu and Chaandhanee magu last night.

MDP commenced protests when Police arrived at Usfasgandu to search the area yesterday morning.
