Construction of Ismehela Hera to begin next month

Minister of Tourism Moosa Zameer has said that efforts are ongoing to start the construction of Ismehela Hera, the biggest resort development project in Addu Atoll, in January 2016.

Zameer, speaking to Sun Media from Addu City on Friday, said that two foreign companies had expressed interest in undertaking this project, and officials representing one of those companies were currently in Addu City.

He said that the goal was to complete negotiations and sign the contract next week.

The initial plan was to develop Ismehela Hera as a resort with 600 beds, however, Zameer said that discussions are ongoing to increase capacity as requested by investors.

The Ismehela Hera Integrated Resort Development Project was launched by President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom at a ceremony at Hotel Jen on 28 April 2015.
