IGMH to have sports medicine department

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has announced the government’s plans to establish a sports medicine department at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).

The announcement came in the President’s speech at a ceremony held at Dharubaaruge on Thursday, to mark TC Sports Club’s past season achievements.

President Yameen said that this was part of the government’s plan to make IGMH the best quality hospital in the region.

He said that footballers cannot continue to be treated for injuries by national football team’s physician Ahmed Shakeeb alone, and a suitable department needs to be established at IGMH.

“This is part of the development plans for IGMH. The 25-storey new building will be completed soon, and then all necessary health services will be made available locally,” he said.
