United Nations (UN) in the Maldives has urged political parties to refrain from misusing the UN logo during protests.
UN in the Maldives said on its Twitter feed on Tuesday, “#Impartiality is a key #UN principle, and we remind all political parties in #Maldives to refrain from misusing #UN logo in the future.”

This follows the inclusion of the UN logo alongside a photo of former president Mohamed Nasheed in t-shirts by protesters of the main opposition party, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).
MDP began using the UN logo in protests after the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention (UNWGAD) called for the release of Nasheed, who has been convicted of terrorism and sentenced to 13 years in prison.
