President Abdulla Yamin Abdul Gayoom has decided to present an amendment to the Article 18 of the Anti-Terrorism Law, aggregating a list of terrorist organizations.
Article 18 of the Anti-Terrorism Law states that a list of terrorist organizations has to be compiled under advisement from the National Security Council and publicize the list within 15 days from when the law comes into effect. But that time period has since passed.
Spokesperson of the President’s Office, Ibrahim Muaz Ali told Sun Media today that the President was advised to amend the aggregating of a list of terrorist organizations and publication by the National Security Council.
“The National Security Council has advised the President that a small country like Maldives creating such a list is not the best method.” Spokesperson of the President’s Office, Muaz Ali said.
Opposition MDP also noted that there are a lot of amendments to be made in the Anti-Terrorism Law. And the Human Rights Commission also noted amendments to be made to the law.
