Dhunya: Government wants to strengthen ties with Commonwealth

Foreign Minister Dhunya Maumoon said Maldivian government would try to strengthen ties with Commonwealth.

In a letter congratulating new Commonwealth Secretary Baroness Patricia Scotland, Minister Dhunya said that her seat was well-deserved considering the contribution of small states such as Dominica (to which Baroness Patricia Scotland belongs) to Commonwealth.

Dhunya also expressed confidence that Ms. Scotland would work on making sure that the voices of small nations such as Maldives in considered by Commonwealth. And that the issues facing such small nations would be given priority by the organization.

Ms. Scotland has dual citizenship in Dominica and United Kingdom, and has served high posts in UK.
