MDP joins as nation mourns death of Abdul Sattar Moosa Didi

Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has expressed sadness as the whole nation mourns the death of Abdul Sattar Moosa Didi – who had been bestowed the highest honor by the state for his service to the country.

MDP released a statement Friday night saying that Abdul Sattar had provided immeasurable services to Maldives.

“Al-Marhoom Abdul Sattar Moosa Didi provided great services during the long period of time he served the State of Maldives. He played the key role in preparing the document for independence of Maldives and provided immeasurable services to the country,” read the statement.

Abdul Sattar, 79, died Friday night at Bumrungrad International Hospital in Bankok, Thailand.

A patriot who served key posts in government during former President Ibrahim Nasir and former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, Abdul Sattar was one of the key figures within former President Nasir’s administration who worked to attain independence from under the thumb of United Kingdom.

The pen with which Nasir sealed the country’s independence in July 26, 1965 was gifted to Abdul Sattar by him.

Abdul Sattar is survived by a wife and three children – a son and two daughters.

Maldivian national flag at Republic Square and government offices have been lowered to half-mast as the whole nation mourns the loss.
