Fisheries Minister and Co-chair the Economic and Youth Council, Dr. Mohamed Shainee has said that it is the Government’s target to see Hulhumalé developed as a Youth City by the end of 2018.
Speaking to the press on his visit to observe the second phase of the Hulhumalé Project, Minister Shainee said that the key infrastructure to be built in the Youth City would begin next year.
“The construction of the key infrastructure in the Youth City would begin soon. And so that agreement would be signed very soon.” Minister Dr. Shainee said.
The Minister said that the Hulhumalé and the newly dredged land in the sea would be connected soon.
And so the funds to begin the work have now been approved. Minister Shainee said that the funds for the housing projects have been approved as well.
Saudi Arabia has given a loan of USD 80 million for the phase 2 of the Hulhumalé project. And the State Bank of India (SBI) has given a loan of USD 50 million for the housing projects.
