President warns of

President Abdulla Yameen has said that ‘dangerous’ people lived in Maldivian society and that such people were travelling abroad to engage in ‘dangerous’ activities.

Speaking during a ceremony held at STELCO on Tuesday to celebrate two People’s Majlis members and some councilors joining government party – Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) - that Maldivians should be on the lookout for inhumane activities that had taken root in Maldivian society recently.

“…the responsibility for this work falls on people in charge of running the state at that time. Therefore this work is being carried out by our party members and those who speak and vote in line with us in People’s Majlis with full knowledge that this may result in physical harm to us. But nevertheless, there are dangerous people living in our society,” he said.

President Yameen said that though they should be welcomed back when they return to the country, such people should be kept a close watch on. He said that such bills weren’t being sent to Majlis to marginalize rights of the innocent, but to protect society from major criminals and people capable of committing major crimes.

He said that even one Majlis member coming over to the side of the government to do this work was cause for happiness.

He stressed that those who committed crimes would most decidedly be punished.

“…there is no way that anyone who commits a crime will not be punished during this administration.”
