Aishath Bisam, who was given the “thumbs up” by People’s Majlis on Monday to be appointed the country’s new Prosecutor General was appointed to the position and took her oath on Tuesday.
The ceremony was held at President’s Office in the morning with Chief Justice Abdulla swearing Bisam in, and President Abdulla Yameen handing her, her appointment letter.
Bisam won Majlis approval after securing 66 votes, with only four voting in disapproval of her being appointed PG.
Opportunity to apply for the position was opened up on November 10, but only Bisam applied for the position.
The position opened up after a vote of no confidence which ousted former PG, Muhthaz Muhsin.
He was ousted after allegations came up that he had divulged confidential information and that
he had made deals with criminals.
