Chinese company, China Communications Construction Company Second Harbor Engineering has been awarded construction of Male-Hulhule Bridge.
Deputy Housing Minister Abdulla Muthalib informed “Sun” on Monday that CCCC Second Harbor Engineering had been awarded construction of bridge last Friday. And that the official signing ceremony of the agreement would be held in Maldives sometime in December.
The company is to come to Maldives and start construction work before end of 2015.
Three Chinese companies had been shortlisted for construction of the bridge. They are, CCCC Second Harbor Engineering, Sichuan Road and Bridge Construction, and China Railway Bridge and Engineering.
The Male-Hulhumale Bridge will stretch out to 1.39 kilometers in length and 20 meters in width.
Housing Minister Mohamed Muizzu said that the bridge would include two lanes for four-wheeled vehicles, two lanes for motorbikes, a lane for bicycles and a lane for pedestrians.
While the cost of constructing is estimated to amount to USD 200 million, USD 100 million is to be provided by Chinese government as non-reimbursable aid.
