MDP decides not to participate in vote for budget

Opposition party – Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has made the decision not to participate in projected state budget for 2016.

Deputy Leader of MDP Parliamentary Group, MP Rozaina Adam announced via Twitter that MDP had issued a three-line whip not to participate in the vote.

No comment was made regarding the reason behind the decision.

The MVR 27.457 billion budget proposed by government was passed by People’s Majlis Budget Committee with the vote of 14 members.

Voting is scheduled to be held at 4:00 pm, Monday.

Finance Minister Abdulla Jihad had said that of the MVR 9.1 billion allocated for Public Sector Investment Programs, MVR 5.2 billion would be spent by government while the remaining MVR 2.7 billion would be funded through free aid and MVR 1.2 billion via trust funds.
