Interpol red notice issued to find Aseel and Ishfah

Interpol has issued a red notice to find the former Deputy Managing Director of Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), Mohamed Aseel who is wanted for misappropriation of funds received by selling islands for resort development by the Tourism Ministry through MMPRC.

The second notice issued was to find Ahmed Ishfah, M. Land of Garden, who is wanted for the investigation of the explosion on board the Presidential Launch.

Maldives Police Service and the National Inquiry Commission have previously issued a wanted notice to find the two.

Home Minister and Co-Chair of the National Inquiry Commission, Umar Naseer has said that that those people and others are hiding abroad. And he ordered them to return to the country and cooperate with the investigation. But so far they have not returned to the Maldives.

According to the Interpol website, the charge against Aseel is the alleged crime of corruption. That is the misappropriation of funds received from selling islands for resort development by the Tourism Ministry.

There are a number of charges against Ishfah who is wanted by the Police for the investigation of the Presidential Launch explosion. The website mentions threatening catastrophe, criminal property damage, use of dangerous weapon during an offense, trafficking, manufacture, sale or possession of catastrophic agents or firearms and terrorism.

Assistant Commissioner of Police, Abdulla Nawaz has previously said that a red notice was issued to find Aseel though it was not issued at the time.
