Abandoned baby to be taken to Kudakudhinge Hiyaa

The baby abandoned after birth in the hospital by the mother has been placed in state care and will be taken to Kudakudhinge Hiyaa, the children’s shelter in Vilimalé.

Zeenaz Adnan, CEO of Kudakudhinge Hiyaa, said, “The baby will be taken to Kudakudhinge Hiyaa as soon as it is released from the hospital.”

Zeenaz said that if the mother is located, authorities will do an assessment to confirm if she is capable of caring for the child; and if this is the case, the child would be handed over to her.

The mother is reported to have left Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) after birth five days ago without the baby.
