Foreign Ministry has said that the Maldives does not prioritize the needs of specific country.

Responding to questions at a press conference held at the Froeign Ministry today, Foreign Minister Dunya Maumoon said that the Maldives will continue to strengthen relationships with all the countries that keep a close friendship with the Maldives. And she said that the Maldives hold discussions with China for projects because they have the means in such things.

“…then there has been an old relationship with the two countries India and China. Then, as you know President Yamin’s foreign policy, a large part of it is economic sustainability or strengthening our economy and to bring big, huge projects to take the Maldives forward or develop further in a fast speed.” Foreign Minister, Dunya Maumoon.

After the Foreign Minister’s response to the question as to whether the Maldives prioritizes China, Foreign Secretary, Dr. Ali Naseer said that the foreign policy is based on prioritizing the different projects in the Maldives to the country where they began.

“…Finance would be sought from where the Finance is available. Through foreign policy, finance is found. Under no condition can one say that the countries the Finance is not available are not paid attention by the Maldives.” Dr. Ali Naseer said.

He said that the largest number of projects in the past 40 years was done with aid from Japan and no one raised the question of “priority”. The Foreign Secretary said that even President Yamin did not say that he prioritize specific countries to achieve the goals of the foreign policy.

“…we won’t characterize, Government doesn’t characterize that a specific country is prioritize by decreasing priority to other countries.” He said.
