Minister of Education Dr Aishath Shiham has announced that an arabic medium school would be established in Haa Dhaalu Kulhudhuffushi next year.
Speaking at a press conference at TVM today, she said that in addition to Kulhudhuffushi, arabic medium schools would be established in many regions across the country in the near future.
"Efforts are ongoing to establish several arabic medium schools. Two schools have already been opened - that is, Arabiyya in Male' and Nooraanee School in Addu," she said.
Arabic medium schools offer Quran and Arabic language as subjects.
Dr Aishath Shiham said that 5,000 Quran and Arabic language teachers are being trained in collaboration with Islamic University.
Quran was introduced in schools as a separate subject last year, and Arabic language was introduced at the same time in 41 schools.
