Man arrested for impeding journalist near the house where the Police conducted a search

A man has been arrested by the Police for impeding a journalist who was covering the Police search operation at M. Kuriruhge tonight.

The Sun Media Photographer in the area at the time, Yousuf Sofwan said that a man who broke through the Police line to enter the house was stopped by the Police and an argument broke out. Then he went towards a DhiTV cameraperson who was videoing the scene and tried to see the footage. And that was when the man was arrested and cuffed.

Maldives Police Service said that a search was conducted at M. Kuriruhge with a court order regarding the case of Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC). They neither confirmed nor denied that they seized anything from the house.

Regarding the explosion on the Presidential Launch in September, a special operation was conducted on the night of 16 October where the Police and MNDF entered the office of MMPRC and conducted a searched after which some items were confiscated from their office.

And two weeks ago, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) also entered MMPRC to investigation a corruption case.

While the Audit office is set to audit MMPRC as per the President’s request, a number of cases about the company have arisen including large amounts of money related cases and import of a gunpowder container by deception.
