Talking to the press today, Attorney General Anil said that although there is a law of for the death sentence now, the importance of bringing such a law is to state the regulations of such a law.
He said that the bill is only for implementing “the death sentence for intentionally killing a person.”
Anil said that they have not yet decided to whether to include the implementation of death sentence to being part of murder.
The bill is to include regulations for those implementing the law and it must be decided so that relevant institutes are counted into it.
During the Presidency of Dr. Mohamed Waheed, the Attorney General Aishath Azima Shukoor also worked on drafting such a bill. But it was not completed by the end of President Waheed’s term.
