The government has confirmed the contractor that would undertake the Malé-Hulhulé bridge project, and signed the relevant document for the project with China.
Minister of Housing and Infrastructure Dr Mohamed Muizzu said the name of the contractor would be announced later.
“The cost of the project is roughly $200 million. The contractor will visit Maldives to sign the agreement. Construction will begin before the end of the year,” Dr Muizzu told Sun Media.
The government announced two days ago that three companies - CCCC Second Harbour Engineering, Road and Bridge Construction, and China Railway Bridge and Engineering - had been shortlisted for the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge project.
The ministry said that bidding documents were handed over to the three companies in a recent information session.
