Thulhaadhoo councillors suspended

All councillors of Baa Thulhaadhoo have been suspended for one month.

Local Government Authority (LGA) said the suspension follows councillors' refusal to follow orders.

The councillors would not receive salaries and allowances during the suspension period, which begins on Sunday.

LGA said that Thulhaadhoo Council’s duties would be handled by Baa Atoll Council until the suspension is lifted.

LGA further said that the decision to suspend all councillors came after Thulhaadhoo Council, earlier, ruled it unlawful and refused to accept the suspension of Council Member Ziyau Ibrahim Rasheed and Council Member Ahmed Abdul Raheem.

Thulhaadhoo Council President Ahmed Abdul Raheem said that the council has not decided yet on how to proceed following LGA’s decision.

All councillors with the exception of two are on vacation and efforts are ongoing to contact them by phone to discuss the matter, he said.
