After the retirement of Judge Abbaas Shareef, Judge Abdul Ghanee Mohamed has been transferred to take his position at the South Branch of the High Court.
A resolution by the Supreme Court today said that Judge Ghanee was assigned to the South Branch of the High Court under Article 35-F of the Law of Courts after reviewing the conditions and Article 141 of the Constitution.
Aside from Judge Ghanee, the other judges at the South Branch of the High Court are Judge Dr. Azmiralda Zaahir and Judge Shuaid Hussain Zakariya.
Although judges have been assigned to the South Branch of the High Court, the court has not yet been established. And so the people of Addu City, Fuvahmulah, G.A. and G.Dh. Atolls have lost the right to an appeal.
The North Branch of the High Court to be built in Kulhuduffushi has not been established either. The judges to that court have not been assigned either leaving the people of H.A., H.Dh., Sh., N., R. and B. Atoll without the right to appeal.
The Amendment to the Law of Courts says that only cases from Malé, Vilimalé, Hulhumalé, Lh., K., A.A., A.Dh., V., M., F., Dh., L and M. Atolls can be appealed at the High Court in Malé City.
