Ministry of Islamic Affairs and Housing Development Corporation have signed an agreement to build a cemetery, a mosque, and a funeral home in Hulhumalé.
The agreement was signed at a ceremony at Minister of Islamic Affairs this morning.
The project will see the construction of a four-room funeral home and a mosque with a capacity of 600.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Ahmed Ziyad Bagir said the cost of the project was roughly MVR 6 million.
Managing Director of HDC Mohamed Simon said the project would be funded by Islamic Ministry, and HDC would play the role of a mediator.
To that effect, HDC would be responsible for finding a contractor and monitoring the project, said Simon.
Regarding the cemetery, he said, “…Our hope is that burials can take place there by end December or end of this year.”
