Vice President notified for the impeachment resolution

Parliament has sent the notification to the Vice President Ahmed Adheeb to respond to the resolution against him seeking impeachment.

The Parliament said that the resolution against Adheeb is proceeding as per the procedure.

Sources say that the notification was sent to Vice President Adheeb sometime time this evening.

Constitution states that the Vice President has to be notified 14 days before the debate on the impeachment can begin.

The Vice President has the right to respond verbally or in writing. The constitution also allows the use of a lawyer to answer on his behalf.

The attempts to contact the Vice President’s lawyer, Hussain Shameem, have been unsuccessful on as to how the Vice President would be responding.

With the amendment to the law during impeachment of the Vice President Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed, says that the debate and a decision would be made even if the Vice President does not attend the Parliament session.

Article 100 (e) of the Constitution states that a resolution to remove the President or Vice President from office shall only be passed if it receives a two-thirds majority of the parliament. That is the vote of 57 MPs out of 85.

The resolution to impeach Vice President Adheeb was presented at the Parliament with the signature of 50 MPs.

Vice President Adheeb is currently under Police custody in suspicion for his involvement in the explosion on board the Presidential Launch last month.
