Minister Umar: There is no arms depot in Uligam

Home Minister Umar Naseer has denied rumors on some media about an arms depot in H.A. Uligam.

The Minister tweeted tonight saying that on behalf of the Maldivian Government, he confirms that there is no arms depot on the island.

On behalf of the govt I confirm that there is NO arms depot in Uligamu. Govt will NOT entertain such a deal involving arms.

The home minister said that the government will not make any deals involving arms.

Some media have been reporting that a Malta company, Safety At Sea Logistics Private Limited (SASL) is going to make an arms depot in H.A. Uligam with a unit consisting of 200 personnel.

They report that the purpose of the depot is to provide security for the ships travelling in the area.
