Twelve locals including councillor arrested on suspicion of gambling

Twelve Maldivians including a councillor have been arrested on suspicion of gambling in a house in Gaafu Alifu Vilingili.

Police said the arrests were made under a court warrant in an operation conducted at around midnight last night.

Items found at the scene include expensive mobile phones and items used in gambling.

The suspects are three men aged 27, two men aged 29, two men aged 25, two men aged 23, and men aged 30, 28, and 35.
