AG: Explosion on the Presidential Launch was an attack on the entire state

Attorney General Mohamed Anil has said that the explosion on board the Presidential Launch on 28 September was a terrorist attack on the entire state.

Speaking on DhiTV’s “Khabarutherein” (Inside News) program, AG Anil said that the harshest punishment within the law would be given to those responsible for the explosion on board the Presidential Launch that took place after the President and the First Lady returned from the Hajj Pilgrimage.

The AG said that President Abdulla Yamin does not belong to a specific political party or a specific Government. And at this time, as it states in Article 46 of the Constitution, President Yamin is the highest leader of the entire Maldibvian State. He said that such a dangerous attack on such an important person would incite danger to every citizen.

“So this is something we have to take very seriously and go to the bottom of it and investigate. When something like this happens, the first thing we have to do is do an investigation freely and thoroughly. I believe that investigation is now ongoing. Though not much information has come to us, we have to believe that that investigation is going under the most capable people in the country.” Attorney General Anil said.

AG Anil said that looking at how the incident proceeded; it is not an ordinary attack. Since the Presidential Launch is under the security forces, there are things to be even more concerned about.

The explosion on board the Presidential launch took place on 28 September when it was closing in to the Izzuddin jetty coming from Hulhulé after the President and the First Lady returned to the country after the Hajj Pilgrim.

Although President Abdulla Yamin was unharmed in the explosion, First Lady, Fathimath Ibrahim sustained injuries to her spine. And the Presidential aide, Fathimath Soalih and bodyguard, Abdul Naasir was injured.
