Majlis approves Enas as HRCM President, Shifaq as Vice President

People’s Majlis on Monday voted in favor of President Abdulla Yameen appointing Aminath Enas as President of Human Rights Commission of Maldives and Shifaq Mufeed as Vice President.

62 members voted in favor of appointing Enas as HRCM President, while 53 members voted in favor of appointing Shifaq as Vice President.

As per amendment to Article 8 of HRCM Act last year, authority to appoint President and Vice President of HRCM was transferred to President.

The appointments, however, also needed the approval of People’s Majlis.

Enas and Shifaq were appointed HRCM members last August.
