Government offices notified to close at 2.30 p.m., avoid overtime

In a move to cut costs, Finance Ministry has notified government offices do everything possible to avoid working overtime, and close offices at 2:30 p.m.

This came in a circular sent to all government offices yesterday, and excludes institutions working on shift basis.

The ministry also advised to restrict overtime pay to 5 percent of basic salary, and to stop providing coffee, tea and eatables at meetings attended by office staff.

All capital costs excluding those in the PSIP should be ceased, the ministry said.
