The first Currency Conference in the Maldives has begun at Paradise Island Resort.
Fifteen countries in the region is taking part in the Currency Conference organized by the biggest currency printing company Delarue and the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA). Officials from Sri Lanka, Nepal, Indonesia, Seychelles, Qatar and Fiji are taking part in the conference.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the two day conference, the Governor Dr. Azima Adam said that this is the most appropriate time to host a Currency Conference in the Maldives. Dr. Azima said that it is because a new note serious would be issued in the Maldives next month. She said that the relationship between the Maldives and the internationally renowned currency printer, Delarue is an important one.

The Chief Guest at the Currency Conference was the Governor of the Central Bank in Sri Lanka, Mr. Arjuna Mahendran He praised the economical accomplishments of Maldivian tourism sector. And said that he wishes to learn from the success of the Maldives.

Topics of discussion at the conference include the design, security features of the currency notes and recognizing the latest techniques of counterfeiters.
