Two bodyguards of the MNDF’s Special Protection Group (SPG) of the providing security for the Vice President, Ahmed Adheeb has been relieved from duty.
Sources tell Sun Media that the bodyguards relieved from duty are Sergeant Hassan Rikaz and Corporal Ahmed Amir. They were relieved of all duties at MNDF yesterday. It is yet unclear as to why the steps were taken against them.
Sergeant Hassan Rikaz and Corporal Ahmed Amir were relieved from duty yesterday while Colonel Abdul Raheem was assigned as the Commander of SPG yesterday.
Sources confirm to Sun Media that six bodyguards that criticized the SPG following the explosion on board the Presidential launch have been transferred to other divisions. The transfers took place when Colonel Ahmed Fayaz (Papa) was the Head of SPG.
Colonel Fayaz was transferred to the Head of the Malé Area Commander yesterday.
Information Officer of MNDF, Major Adnaan Mohamed said that they do not publicized internal changes in the media. And so would not be making any changes.
A Presidential Security Division (PSD) dedicated to the security of the President was formed after the explosion on board the Presidential launch.
Colonel Ibrahim Rasheed was assigned as the head of PSD. Colonel Rasheed has previously worked as a bodyguard for President Maumoon, President Nasheed and President Waheed.
President and the First Lady were traveling from Hulhulé to the Capital, Malé after their Hajj Pilgrimage in the morning of 28 September; when the explosion that took place on board the Presidential launch injuring a bodyguard of the President, a presidential aide and the First Lady, Fathimath Ibrahim.
The First Lady is still being treated at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).
