Mayor of Male’ Maizan Ali Manik has been summoned to Criminal Court, subsequent to a letter sent by Male’ City Council to Criminal Court asking the court not to issue an order to allow the Police to dismantle Usfasgandu without giving Male’ City Council the chance to represent itself in court.

Speaking to reporters after attending the court at 10:00, the Mayor said that the Registrar of the Court Ali Adam met him and his two lawyers upon arrival.

“I was summoned in relation to the letter asking the court not to issue an order to dismantle Usfasgandu without giving us the chance to represent ourselves,” he said.

He was told by the Registrar that the court will only issue orders after notifying the parties involved according to laws and regulations. The Mayor told the Registrar, City Council’s reasoning behind sending the letter.

The Police had made a request for a court order to dismantle Usfasgandu.

A Police media official said last Sunday that this request was made in order to do what is necessary to handover Usfasgandu to the government, as requested by Home Ministry.
