Foreign Minister, Dunya Maumoon has said that the efforts from the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) have to move ahead with far greater speed and will.
Speaking at an informal meeting of the SAARC Council of Ministers at the U.N. General Assembly in New York, Minister Dhunya said that the importance of the organization has grown.
“Despite many setbacks, we have moved ahead. Yet, we are far from the aspirations we have set out for ourselves. We need to move ahead with far greater speed and will.” Minister Dunya said.
She said that the Maldives fully supports the reform of SAARC processes and mechanisms that are underway. The Minister said that she hopes that the host of the new SAARC Environment and Disaster Management Centre will be decided soon.
