Hotels and Resorts Company has said that what their expatriate employees did yesterday claiming they were not getting their salaries was not a protest.
Media Coordinator and IT Manager of the Company, Ahmed Visham told Sun Media today that the accusation made by their expat employees claiming that they have not gotten their salaries for three months was false.
“Actually what happened yesterday was when they came to inquire about their salaries, people near our office who had no business with them supported them and said some things to scare them. And then more workers joined them.” Visham said.
Visham said that what their employees were doing yesterday was by no means a protest. And said that some people have took pictures while they were going to their accommodation saying that those were of a protest by foreigners.
“Our company never had a record with Labor Relations Authority for not paying someone and has no cases at the Department of Immigration. We look after the health and safety of our employees and give over time with other allowances.” Visham said.
A Media Official from the Police yesterday said that a protest by expatriates working in the Maldives was stopped yesterday. And as per the laws of the country, it is illegal for foreigners in the country on Work VISA to take part in protests.
