Bill allowing the President to free

An amendment to the Clemency Law that would grant the power to free “Political Prisoners” to the President has been submitted to the Parliament by the MP for South-Galolhu constituency, Ahmed Mahloof.

The amendment by MP Mahloof would add line to chapter 29 of the Article.

The amendment presented by MP Mahloof says that that crime a person has been convicted of has been dissolved and/or if the crime is not set in any other law, the President has the power to lighten the sentence the sentence or grant pardon.

MP Mahloof’s amendment says that the President has the power to show clemency towards people who have been Presidents, Vice President, Ministers, MPs and Supreme Court Judges although it says otherwise in another chapter of the Article.

There are special conditions for clemency in the Clemency Law now.

MP Mahloof said that the purpose such an amendment is the conflict among the people regarding the many “Political Prisoners” serving their sentences in prison. And he said that there can be no peace in the country with political leaders in prison.
