Supreme Court accused of interfering with political affairs

MDP has accused the Supreme Court of interfering with political affairs and protecting the interests of a specific side.

The biggest opposition party in the country made the accusation in a statement issued today in response to the statement made by the Supreme Court yesterday saying that they would protect the Constitutional governance in the country.

The MDP statement said that the Supreme Court does not have a specific power to maintain Constitutional governing.

“The highest court in land going to the point of injecting itself into political affairs and issuing statements to protect the interests of a specific side to achieve a political goal is a terror to today’s Government.” The MDP statement said.

MDP said that the statement from the Supreme Court saying that it would use it’s powers is a stern statement and questioned as to why such a statement was made.

The statement from the Supreme Court yesterday said that they would be taking the steps within the law to ensure the peace in the country.

MDP has said that saying that the Supreme Court would rule over the Security Services is the Judiciary Branch forcing itself on to the Executive Branch.

Responding to the statement of Supreme Court, MDP has said that 7 February 2012 was one of the most dangerous, frightening and sad days in the recent history of the country and while the Supreme Court has not issued such a statement on that day, there are concerns as to why such a statement was suddenly made while there is, in fact, no civil unrest in the country.

They accused the Supreme Court’s statement to be directly targeted to those who oppose the Government.

MDP said that the Judiciary Branch combining with the Executive Branch would lose the people’s faith in the Judiciary System. And called to the Supreme Court to distance itself from such events and resolve the challenges facing the country in the Justice System.
