Indian forensic team has arrived in Mal

At the request of the Maldives Police Service, India has sent a forensic team to the Maldives to assist in the investigation of the explosion on the Presidential launch.

The three-man forensic team that arrived in Malé tonight would be working closely with the Maldivian Police providing all the technical assistance required in the investigation of the explosion on the Presidential launch on Monday.

The Indian Government has provided similar assistance to the Maldives in the past establishing a forensic lab (FSL) in the Maldives under the India-Maldives Bilateral Assistance Program in 2010.

India also supplied forensic equipment to the lab in 2011.

The Police Media Official told Sun Media that investigators from United States that arrived in the country have also joined the investigation.

President and the First Lady were traveling from Hulhulé to the Capital, Malé after their Hajj Pilgrimage when the explosion that took place on board the Presidential launch. 

A bodyguard of the President, a presidential aide and the First Lady, Fathimath Ibrahim was injured in the explosion.
