Man injured during the cleaning of the boat

A man has been taken to Thaa Atoll Hospital after being injured under a steel barrel while cleaning the boat “Savaaree” from Th. Guraidhoo before beaching the vessel.

Talking to Sun Media, a Spokesperson of the hospital, Mohamed Abdul Sattar said that while a man has received major injuries in the incident today, arrangements are being made to move him to Malé via air.

And so an agreement has been made to cover his medical expenses via Aasandha insurance.

The Spokesperson said that the man had injuries to his neck and bones when he was brought to the hospital around 11 a.m.

Police Media Official told Sun Media that the incident took place around 9 a.m. today while cleaning the inside of the boat before beaching. The official said that the barrel fell onto his back while he was bending over in compartment below deck.

The boat “Savaaree” crashed on a reef near M. Dhiggaru and has sunk in the past week. The boat was resurfaced and taken to Guraidhoo. The boat had 168 people on board with women and children.
