Saudi Arabian team arrives in Maldives for explosion investigation

A forensic team from Saudi Arabia has arrived in the Maldives to assist the police with the investigation of the explosion on board the presidential speedboat on Monday.

Police said that the nine-member team arrived at 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, and were welcomed at Ibrahim Nasir International Airport (INIA) by Head of Crime Investigation Command of Maldives Police Service, Superintendent of Police Hamdhoon Rasheed.

A United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agent also arrived in Maldives yesterday for the investigation.

Hamdhoon Rasheed said while speaking to the media yesterday, that Maldives Police had requested assistance from the FBI and Australian Federal Police.

The explosion will be investigated as a very serious matter, Hamdhoon said.
