Five crew members of Finifenma, the presidential speedboat on which there was an explosion on Monday, have been summoned by the police for questioning.
Sources have told Sun Online that the questioning went on past midnight on Monday night.
When contacted, police said they were doing the necessary for the investigation, which included summoning and questioning those related to the explosion.
The officer did not give a direct answer when asked if Finifenma crew had been questioned.
Finifenma crew are staff of Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Special Protection Group. They have no military training, and are specialised in operation of marine vessels.
President Abdulla Yameen was scheduled to address the media upon arrival in Malé after the hajj pilgrimage. As the speedboat approached Izzuddin Jetty in Malé, however, there was an explosion on board which left three people injured.
The President was unharmed. First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim suffered four spine fractures, and has been advised by doctors to take bed rest for three weeks.
In addition to the president's wife, his bodyguard and a staff of the President’s Office suffered burns in the incident.
